It is well documented in history that MNDF has been performing at the pinnacle of the sporting arena since the very beginning. A team representing MNDF participated in the very first hockey match held in the country, on 18th November 1945. Similarly, they played in the country’s first official soccer match, back during the tenure of Mohamed Ameen Didi. Even prior to their involvement on the national level, games such as rugby, cricket and hockey were contested at a competitive spirit between staff of the two shifts. Recreational activities were also conducted in tandem, the most notable success story being the hugely popular Bodu Beru Group.

MNDF Headquarters harbors just about all popular sports facility you could wish for. There are indoor games ranging from billiards and board games to table tennis and badminton, and outdoor grounds catering for netball, volleyball and soccer. All regional headquarters boast a respectable soccer pitch. Popular games among MNDF staff include soccer, volleyball, netball and basketball.

Several competitions are held successfully every year between individual staff and units. In 2005, the first ever handball tournament in Maldives was organized and held between MNDF units. It is also a well documented fact that staff of the Defence Force participated in the first official soccer match held in the country, back during the tenure of Mohamed Ameen Didi, providing further evidence that MNDF has always been at the pinnacle of sporting activities even on the national level.

If you prefer recreational activities than sports, you are unlikely to be disappointed. You could always head off to the in-house cyber café to kill time, or you could opt for something more dynamic and career-oriented. Recreational activities such as the annual “Sifa Ufaa” show are rare opportunities to expose your talent in the field of entertainment.

Countless opportunities also exist to build a career in music. In addition to the widely popular “Cops Band”, and the brass band, there are smaller bands formed within units, occasionally favouring even traditional music and dances. You may even pursue a career in acting.
